Middlesex County Center for Empowerment Survivor Play

& Dramaturgical Documentation

In partnership with coLAB Arts and the Middlesex County Center for Empowerment, NJCTI developed a full-length, verbatim theater piece based on the oral histories of power-based personal violence survivors.

Entitled TRUEly Heard, NJCTI Lead Faculty members Stephanie Van Huss and Jasmine Carmichael developed, wrote, and directed the work throughout 2021-2024. As they worked on the project, a professional dramaturg was employed to document the creation process - including new, healthy practices we discovered in our work with survivors and performers.
